The shield tiling and wheel tiling are dual tilings in some sense. The wheel tiling is very closely related to the spectre aperiodic monotile recently published by Smith, Myers, Kaplan, and Goodman-Strauss.
This design was created by hand, using the √3 field in vZome. The field supports the tiling coordinates using exact arithmetic, though vZome has no special support for creating substitution tilings.
